Microsoft Ending Extended Support for Some Operating Systems

As of July 11, 2006, Microsoft will no longer longer offer Extended Support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me. Microsoft will retire public and technical support, including security updates, by this date, so we recommend that customers who are still running Windows 98 or Windows Me upgrade to a newer, more secure Microsoft operating system, such as Windows XP, as soon as possible. Announcing Connections 2006:
DataPath's Annual Conference

It's time to start planning for Connections 2006. The Conference this year will be held at the Green Valley Ranch Resort in Henderson, Nevada, August 30-September 1. (Henderson is only minutes from the Las Vegas strip.)

Watch for the April newsletter for Conference details. We have great plans for this Conference!

DataPath's 2006 Goals

Please Note: DataPath is changing the yearly product planning schedule to a fiscal year basis, April-March.

Once again, DataPath has set ambitious goals for the new year. And, as always, the needs of our clients are the #1 criterion we follow when developing an annual systems development plan.

Please note that these goals are all subject to revision if we meet with unexpected market changes and governmental regulations. As a matter of fact, the IRS has already told us to expect the release of new proposed § 125 regulations and related rulings this summer, perhaps by the end of June.

In general, we will be striving in 2006 to create new revenue-stream opportunities for our clients, increase operational efficiencies for current systems, improve the overall user experience through enhanced user ergonomics and improved Client Services, and increase system efficiencies through education and Help Center services.

Use drugstore.com:
Increase Your FSA Participation!

Looking for a way to boost lagging Flexible Spending Account (FSA) participation? DataPath’s arrangement with drugstore.com could be your answer.

The drugstore.com connection offers automatic claims processing of FSA-related purchases when DataPath’s myResourceCard credit card or mySourceCard debit card are used to purchase eligible products at the drugstore.com FSA Store. This partnership benefits FSA participants by eliminating much of the traditional hassle of submitting paper claims. Administrators also benefit because the process takes the tedious work out of FSA administration.

Department of Treasury Revises Priority Guidance Plan

Last August, the Department of Treasury released the 2005-2006 Priority Guidance Plan which listed 254 projects for the plan year. At that time they indicated that the Treasury would update the plan periodically to reflect additional guidance that they intend to publish during the plan year.

On March 6, 2006, a press release was issued announcing the first update. In addition to updating the status of items on the Priority Plan, 58 additional items of guidance have been added, some of which have already been published. (They warn that while the update may indicate that a particular item on the plan has been completed, it is possible that one or more additional projects may be completed in the plan year relating to that item.)

Learn more about this expected guidance at Connections 2006 DataPath's Annual Conference), especially if you attend the Legislative Track meetings.

Autologging capabilities

Did you know that DataPath now has the capability to log and track your e-mail inquiries, questions, and enhancement requests automatically? If you’ve recently sent an e-mail to our Support Department, you’ve probably received a confirmation e-mail almost immediately with an automatically assigned Inquiry Number to help both you and our support team to track the progress of your request.

This auto-logging feature allows the average time between start and close of inquiries to be reduced and the turn-around time for considering and including client software enhancement requests to be decreased

IRS Form 8889:
Clarification for HSAs

One of the unique and defining aspects of HSAToday is the role of the Plan Service Provider (PSP) as the account holder’s Personal HSA Assistant. Providing assistance at tax time is just one of the value-added services offered by HSAToday PSPs.

As the deadline for filing 2005 taxes draws closer, we wanted to provide some helpful information about IRS Form 8889, Health Savings Accounts (HSAs, which may be confusing to some HSA account holders. Form 8889, as referenced in Question #28 of Form 1040, must be filed if the account holder (or their spouse, if filing a joint return) had any activity in their HSA during the year. It must be filed even if only the account holder’s employer or the spouse’s employer made contributions to the HSA.

You can increase your knowledge of similar items by attending DataPath's Annual Conference, Connections 2006. The Conference will be divided into two tracks, one of which will cover legislative matters. Be sure to bring someone so both tracks will be attended. The additional information will be well worth it.

DataPath's Featured Employee:
Tina Smart

Tina R. Smart has been chosen to be the featured employee in this month's newsletter. Tina is the Card Manager for myResourceCard and mySourceCard. Tina sees her role as Card Manager is to ensure that both the needs of DataPath's clients and the needs of the individual cardholders are met.

When asked what she envisioned the most important function of her department is, Tina answered that it was to make sure that the cardholder is happy. "The happier the cardholder is with the product, the happier our clients are with us." She sees the use of myResourceCard growing rapidly as the HSAToday flourishes.

Tina is married to Bradley J. Smart, who is a First Lieutenant in the Arkansas National Guard. She has one 14-year-old daughter, Heidi L. Ward. Tina's favorite hobbies are skiing, camping, and just being lazy. Her concept of "being lazy" is further explained in her answer to "I'd rather be. . . ", when she answered, "I'd rather be relaxing in a field of Kentucky Bluegrass."
