Watch Out for “Phishers”

There has been an increase in “consumer fraud” emails being sent out recently. Please be aware that NO company will email you to verify your credit card, online account, bank account, or any other personal information online.

These emails look very realistic, and they usually redirect you to domains similar to the company they are attempting to impersonate. NEVER enter your account name, password, bank account, credit card number, or other personal information on any site you reach as a result of an email asking you to verify your account.

This well-known technique of redirecting you to a domain under their control is known as “phishing”, and its purpose is to obtain information which will let them impersonate you. Even information you consider trivial, such as your ebay account, can be used to harm you.
