Bringing Wellness to the Forefront

In the Consumer Driven Health Care industry, we often hear about how America is in the midst of a healthcare cost crisis, with rising costs abounding from providers, drug companies, and insurance carriers. This focus on the costs crisis sometimes overshadows the other crisis we as a nation are facing that has contributed significantly to the cost crisis. By and large, we Americans live downright unhealthy lifestyles, creating a health crisis that has compounded the healthcare cost crisis. That is why we in the Consumer Driven Health Care industry must bring Wellness to the forefront of CDHC.

Industry leaders, such as Sharon Alt, are calling for a focus on the role of wellness programs in the Consumer Driven model. In an article from earlier this month, Alt points out the correlation between unhealthy lifestyle choices that have become so prevalent in America and the rising costs of health coverage.

Alt calls for improving health education and praises programs such as My Wellchoice+, which offers a wide variety of tools and services to its users. She also praises My Wellchoice+’s commitment to educating children and helping parents get their kids involved in their health. Getting people engaged in their personal wellness is a step that must be taken before our industry can seriously address the issue of the health care finance crisis, because unless Americans can change their lifestyles and become more aware, rising cost will always be an issue.
