DaraPath Alert

June 1, 2009

DataPath Clients,

As a follow-up to the information we have previously shared with you concerning proposed legislation that is being developed in Congress, we wish to emphasize the importance for you as a professional in the benefits management and reimbursement industry to inform your elected representatives about your stance on these issues.

Customer satisfaction research has proven that one satisfied customer will refer a place of business to two other potential customers while one unsatisfied customer will tell ten people of their dissatisfaction.

You may say to yourself, “What impact can I have?” Be assured your input will not be ignored. In politics, one letter represents thousands of constituents. Make your voice heard now. More than polls, direct contact with legislators in the form of emails, letters and phone calls is the single most powerful indicator of public opinion, which has proven, time and again, to change pending legislation and, ultimately, to unseat politicians. When you contact your representatives, they will know that you will be attentive to how they vote and that you will not forget at election time.

It is vital that we in the employee benefits industry contact all of our legislators in regards to the proposed changes to FSAs, and HSAs BEFORE the next session of Congress begins in late June.

Below are the states represented by the members of the Senate Finance Committee which is currently debating the financing of our health care system, and the future of FSAs and HSAs. They are particularly affected by voters in their home states. If you reside in one of the states below, please click here to download the finance commmitee contact information.. The ECFC has provided a very good form letter which will simplify the process even more. To access the form letter click here.

Senate Finance Committee
Montana Texas West Virginia New Mexico
North Dakota Michigan Florida New York
New Jersey Utah Iowa Maine
Idaho Kansas Wyoming Nevada
Massachusetts Delaware Kentucky Oregon
Arkansas Washington Arizona

You can also have a great impact by contacting the members of the Joint Subcommittee on Taxation. This is important because these are the legislators who will combine the two bills coming from the House and Senate respectively, into a single Bill. Click here for the contact information of these legislators.

Of equal importance are the Legislators on the House Ways and Means Committee. As with the members of the Joint Subcommittee on Taxation, please contact those Legislators in your home state to express your concerns. For contact information by state, click here.

Ways and Means Committee
New York Washington California Massachusetts
Michigan Georgia Tennessee Texas
North Dakota Connecticut Oregon Wisconsin
New Jersey Nevada Maryland Pennsylvania
Florida Alabama North Carolina Illinois
Kentucky Virginia Ohio Louisiana

Again, do not discount the affect the few minutes you take to send emails and call will have on the outcome of Health Care Reform. If we all act now, it will pay dividends. If not, and FSAs are eventually eliminated, our industry will be devastated and we will have no one to blame but ourselves.

All of us in the consumer driven health arena know that reform is absolutely necessary. It is up to us to ensure that the elements of the current system which are not broken are not discarded with those that do not work. For more information, captiolhill.dpath.com.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to make your concerns known,
